hospitals and the outlying, bordering County Hospitals
are looking to the future developing new tools and procedures
utilizing new “High –Tech” equipment
as well as honoring their pasts. Baptist
– which includes downtown
Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee, Baptist
Hospital West and Baptist
Hospital for Women at Turkey Creek continue to
add services, recently acquiring a system to deliver
image-guided radiation therapy, helping doctors to
locate and target tumors. The On-Board Imager uses
robotic arms and reduces the need to treat healthy
tissue around the tumor.
Fort
Sanders Regional Medical Center also made
use of robotic arms which allows surgeons to operating
through a dime-size incision. The technology promises
fewer complications, less pain and quicker recovery.
Parkwest
Medical Center completed full renovations, including
a new 30 bed critical care unit with a family-centric
waiting room as well as combining all imaging functions
in the new six-story Riverstone Tower. Parkwest also
acquired a new, faster MRI unit with higher imaging
quality and Light Speed CT scanner with cardiac capabilities,
and opened a new Sleep Disorders Lab in Riverstone.
St.
Mary’s Health System broke ground on St.
Mary’s Medical Center North, a $67-million,
1,800,000 square foot full service hospital near Interstate
75 and Emory Road. It has also been named the best
in East Tennessee for cardiac surgery by HealthGrades,
the nation’s leading independent provider of
hospital ratings. St. Mary’s added new technology
and services including 3-D biplane angiography, the
Anodyne Therapy System, a newly available procedure
that treats pelvic organ prolapse in women.
The University
of Tennessee or UT Medical Center has everything
from A to Z and beyond. The Medical Center campus
is made up of six Centers. These Centers include:
The UT Heart Lung Vascular Institute. The UT Brain
and Spine Institute. The UT Center for Women’s
Health. The Center for Orthopedic Programs of Excellence.
The UT Trauma/Emergency Medicine and the UT Cancer
Institute. UT Medical Center has obtained a 3D Iso
C arm and the CyberKnife equipment.
There are also other reputable, state of the art technology
hospitals with the outlying, bordering counties of
